Meet an Intern: Zac Vance

Endless Opportunities

What sets Flashstarts apart from the other creative jobs/experiences that I’ve partaken in is the opportunity to learn so much in such little time. Whether it’s picking up on business strategy from one of our very valuable “Food for Thought” sessions or learning a new coding language, the possibilities to further yourself in your field of study are endless, as there is such a high demand for different skill sets. For example, I learned WordPress last summer here at Flashstarts, and I am already learning Joomla to help another startup company develop their website— and we’re only 3 weeks in! All in all, every intern has the opportunity to gain a gratuitous amount of knowledge depending upon how much they apply themselves, which is truly invaluable.

Real World Environment

Another great thing about interning here at Flashstarts is the real world experience you pick up while working with one (or multiple) startup teams. As entrepreneurs, the team members here are extremely busy. They rely very strongly on interns to meet deadlines to help progress their startup so they have a strong product to unveil at demo day. The amount of work you are assigned can sometimes be overwhelming, but you are not alone! You can simply reach out to the intern pool here and somebody will always be willing to help you work through whatever it is you feel like you’re stuck on. The work you accomplish here during the summer accelerator will astonish you when you look back at it later, just as it did with me and the 2013 accelerator.

All Work and No Play? No Way!

One of the best things about being an intern here at Flashstarts is the feeling of appreciation you get from the startup teams and Flashstarts as well. The startup teams here are extremely courteous! Also, there are many outings planned by Flashstarts to help unify the office and unwind a bit from the workload that comes with starting a new company. Whether it’s a mixer event at the Cleveland Museum of Art, attending an Indians game (GO TRIBE!), or enjoying an evening at Whiskey Island, you’ll be sure to have a great time and make new friends/connections that you’ll keep it touch with indefinitely.

Overall, the summer internship program here at Flashstarts will surely be a summer to remember for all who partake in it. I know that I have grown tenfold as a designer and web developer since I have decided to intern at Flashstarts.
