Meet An Intern: Paul Dilyard

Purposeful Endeavors

The typical developer intern isn’t trusted to work on anything important, for fear that they may break it. They are instead assigned to a task that is not aligned with the overall goal of the company, in hopes that the intern will learn enough to be able to work on the real software.

Oftentimes, companies create entire projects just for the interns to do, which ensures that the interns have little to no impact on the company. Smaller companies usually won’t go to this extent, but they still may not trust the interns to do valuable work. Interns always have someone looking over their shoulder, and aren’t given any space to be creative or critically solve problems on their own.

At Flashstarts, this scenario never takes place. Interns are highly valued and in demand; all the work that is given to the interns is vital to the success of the company. As an intern, it’s a very enjoyable experience to be held in such high respect.

My favorite part about working with teams at Flashstarts is that the knowledge you bring to the table has an effect on the way the company operates. If you can prove your skills, you can have a real influence on the way teams work. If you don’t know something, you are surrounded by a wide variety of extremely knowledgeable people that are always willing to help.
