Position: Graphic Design Intern

We had a chance to sit down with Matt Gilson, one of our graphic design interns, to talk to him about his internship experience.
Tell us about living/working in Cleveland.
I love it here! I always wanted to live and work in a city, and now that I actually have that experience, I love it! I feel like this is what I should be doing and I want to do this forever—but we’ll see what happens in the future.
What has been your best experience working at FlashStarts?
Designing a logo for a company has been the best experience so far. The fact that I helped give a company an image was really cool. People can learn what a company means and is about just by looking at the image, and I am the one that helped create that! To me, that is a very honorable thing.
What has been your biggest challenge working here this summer?
Probably just the same challenge every designer has—you get your designer blocks! It’s a challenge because you might get yourself in a corner and then need to fight your way out of it.
Tell us about the environment in the office.
I love that everything here is carpeted and you can walk around barefoot! It’s very laid back environment and it makes me feel very comfortable, which is hard to find in offices.
What’s different about this internship compared to others?
Well, I’ve never had an internship before, but I chose this one over another offer this summer because this one offered more. I like the diversity of the different companies here. We are more hands-on and can actually work with teams here, rather than designing alone by myself. I can put much more on my resume working here than I could at the other company.
