What do you do as a business developing/finance intern?

As a business development/finance intern, I am creating revenue models and financial projections for most of the teams. Additionally, I am working to attain sponsorships for the demo day event in September.

How did you hear about FlashStarts?

I heard about the internship through an email from Kent State’s career services office.

What attracted you to FlashStarts?

I wanted to see how the startup community worked. I knew there was a growing community in Cleveland for startups and accelerators, so I applied!

What’s the best part about working here?

Juggling a lot of different projects and working with a lot of different people is the best part. I like that I’m doing something different everyday. There is also a lot of opportunity for professional development here. You have the freedom to make this internship what you want.

What’s the biggest challenge?

Probably trying to remember each team’s strategy while working with them. (There are 11!)

How is this internship different than other ones you’ve participated in?

It is way different than previous internships I’ve held. It’s much more relaxed here at FlashStarts—and I like it! The relaxed feel in the office is better for idea flow and brainstorming activities.

Would your recommend FlashStarts for future interns? Why?

Absolutely! This internship is a great way to gain valuable real world experience. You have the opportunity to work on projects that you aren’t necessarily “well-versed” in, which is a great way learn new skills.

How is it working with Charles and Jen?

Charles and Jen are great. They have taught me a ton. They are very helpful, especially when I need to think outside the box and approach situations differently.

Tell us about what it’s like working in Cleveland.

Working downtown is great; it’s full of energy! We have a great 270-degree view of the lake and skyline. There are plenty of lunch options all around the city, just a quick trolley ride away. The entertainment options available after work are great, there is at least one sports team playing all year round. That being said, it is very easy to walk down and catch a Tribe game after work. The core downtown neighborhood is great and offers a lot of different activities for young professionals.

Also, neighborhoods like Tremont, Ohio City and Detroit Shoreway are easily accessible by public transportation or a quick drive. These neighborhoods and many more offer their own specialties, which truly gives Cleveland a big city feel with small town accessibility.
