Using the super computer IBM Watson, which they have a business and developer partnership with, NativX creates a travel itinerary based on your personality. The company pulls information from your social media accounts, or other resources, to build a dream trip that incorporates your distinct interests.
Not only does this enable travelers to enjoy a more catered experience when going to new destinations, it also gives locals a chance to show visitors what makes their city great. Better, more unique vacations, and boosts to local economies aren’t the only things the company has to offer.
The team behind NativX envisions for each user a “summary”—a map of past trips and miles traveled. This could be used to compare yourself to where others have been, allowing users to establish what are called “communities of travelers.” For example, adventure-seeking individuals could join an “adventure group” and see others’ maps for travel inspiration, taking what others have seen or done as the basis for following trips.
A Young Company
The concept was born not too long ago, in November of 2015, at a startup weekend. The team was inspired by a trip to Guam, which they’d experienced off the beaten path thanks to a close friend who was a local. The startup weekend included a pitch competition that the team won, solidifying their idea. NativX was finally incorporated in January this year, and while the team is young and still in beta testing, which they hope to get through by the end of the summer, they’ve already been noticed by some prestigious companies.
In addition to the exclusive IBM partnership to commercialize Watson, they’ve been regarded as a top 10 college startup at South by Southwest (SXSW) and Recess, have been awarded the Southwest Airlines National Travel Innovation Award, and have been featured in Forbes, CNBC, and Startup Beat.
