Flashstarts Wins “Best Small Business Internship” Expys Award

Last Thursday was the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education’s annual celebration of Northeast Ohio internships, the Expys Best Internship Awards. Presented in conjunction with CBC Magazine, the Expys provides awards in several categories, including best intern, mentor, college supervisor, and internships.

Flashstarts is proud to receive the Best Small Business Internship Expys award.

“Successful entrepreneurial internships provide experiential learning opportunities to students and simultaneously support individual startups in our local ecosystem,” said Deborah Hoover, President and CEO of The Burton D. Morgan Foundation, [which contributes funding to NOCHE’s entrepreneurship program]. “The Flashstarts model goes further, adding the synergistic impact of a critical mass of interns and the ‘cool factor’ that will help keep our young entrepreneurs in Northeast Ohio. We congratulate Flashstarts on winning the NOCHE Expy award!”

Charles Stack, co-founder and CEO of Flashstarts, describes their intern program as their “most underestimated competitive advantage.”

We’re honored to be a finalist in three additional categories: Best New Internship, Best Mentor, and Best Intern. Jodi Marchewitz, our director of resource development & experiences, was our finalist for Best Mentor and Taylor Zorman, a 2013 marketing and social media intern, was the finalist for Best Intern. Taylor will start as Flashstarts’ new program manager upon her graduation from Ashland University in May of 2014.

This win–and the strength and success of our intern program–would not be possible without our 2013 interns, Jodi Marchewitz, our mentors, our entrepreneurs, and our investors. Thank you for everyone who has and continues to support Flashstarts. Your help is contributing to the growth of interns, startups, and Cleveland.
