Week 11: Cap Tables, Sharks, & Farewells

We’re wrapping up the eleventh week of the program, and the reality of Demo Day is setting in. The office is especially alive these days, as teams and interns reach the home stretch, coming in early and working late to perfect their presentations. In the midst of pitch preparation, we’ve been continuing our Food For Thought speaker series, bringing in “sharks” for another round of office shark tanks, and saying a sad farewell to some of our Summer on the Cuyahoga interns.

Food for Thought: Cap Tables

In this week’s Food for Thought, we heard from Thompson Hine‘s Jonathon Vinocur about cap tables. In this informative session, our teams listened intently, learning about topics such as form of entity, founder vesting, stock options and transaction structures.

Bracketr“The talk on cap tables was really helpful. It was especially beneficial to hear his insight on the investor climate in this region,”

Julie Petrarca, co-founder of Bracketr.

Shark Tanks: Round 2

We had our second (and final) round of shark tank pitches this week, once again putting our teams to the test in front of “sharks,” local investors who offer critiques, feedback and advice.

Thank you to Lynn-Ann Gries, Jonathan Murray, Bill Trainor, Lee Zapis, Ethan Cohen, Chris Olsen and Todd Federman for lending us their time and advice as we near Demo Day. Our teams are preparing to pitch to a theater full of investors, and this practice is vital to their improvement.

Saying Goodbye to Some of Our Interns

FSOTCWhere did the summer go? It’s already time to say goodbye to some of our interns, who worked here all summer and participated in the Summer on the Cuyahoga program, which ends this week. Nine of our twenty interns were a part of SOTC, and spent their summer exploring and enjoying Cleveland in their free time. Our teams will sorely miss them around the office next week!
