Last Wednesday, at our third annual Demo Day, our CEO Charles Stack announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund the furnishing of StartMart. The Cleveland entrepreneurial hub wants to raise $10,000 to buy chairs, tables and whiteboards and to provide membership scholarships to entrepreneurs. More details are in the press release below.
StartMart Launches Kickstarter Campaign to Raise $10k
Entrepreneurial Hub Hopes to Outfit Its Space and Provide Membership Scholarships
CLEVELAND, Aug. 19, 2015 – StartMart, an entrepreneurial hub in Cleveland designed to connect people, ideas and resources, launched a Kickstarter campaign with an initial funding goal of $10,000. The campaign, which was announced at Flashstarts Demo Day 2015, began today and will run until Sept. 25, 2015.
Funding from the campaign will finance scholarships for members and supplies for the space, such as whiteboards, chairs, tables and paint. StartMart, which is launching to the public on Sept. 8, will also use some of the funding to launch an internship program.
“We’ve been engaging members of the community in the formation of StartMart since May of 2014 and have gotten great feedback and involvement,” said StartMart CEO Charles Stack. “Now it’s time for execution. Cleveland wants and needs this startup nucleus for businesses to grow. We’d love to see 10,000 contributions of $1 each, all from local supporters here in the community.”
Stack created StartMart to give entrepreneurs and startups in Cleveland access to the critical resources they need to create and grow businesses. The 35,000 square-foot multi-functional facility offers startup teams and individual entrepreneurs and freelancers flexible membership plans, allowing them to utilize work spaces, tools, connections, programs and events.
Stack and Flashstarts Executive Vice President Shannon Lyons will continue to engage community members in refining the StartMart vision through a permanent feedback process called CODESIGN.
“We need more than funding to make StartMart a powerful nucleus of entrepreneurial activity in Cleveland,” said Lyons. “This hub needs to be driven by the community around it and the StartMart CODESIGN sessions provide an opportunity for informed co-creation.”
The kickstarter campaign will offer supporters pledge levels ranging from $1 to $10,000. Each level offers backers a reward, such as a StartMart t-shirt for pledging $25 or a one-person month StartMart membership ($300 value) for a gift of $150. Some rewards are limited, so those interested in supporting the campaign are encouraged to make a pledge soon.
The StartMart space allows members to work in either large, open spaces or private offices. Other StartMart amenities include telepresence towers to facilitate virtual meetings, a media room with a stop-motion studio, a “Maker Space” with a vinyl cutter and t-shirt press, a zen meditation room, a selection of coffee and tea from all over the world, and Ping-Pong tables.
