Two individuals envision changes that would better existing markets, and are looking forward to working with the Flashstarts interns this summer to accomplish just that.
An app hybrid
Michael DeAloia, an honored veteran in Cleveland’s tech scene, has been pursuing an overhaul of an existing app that he purchased toward the end of last year. The app, called SneakyPix, has not been updated since 2009 and still needs to be upgraded to iOS9.
However, SneakyPix, which allows users to snap photos and videos without anyone around being aware of the fact, continues to attract users. Apart of that investment, DeAloia also purchased AudioDrop, an app that allows users to discreetly record audio that is then stored and put onto DropBox.
DeAloia’s idea is that these two apps can be combined into a hybrid app called “Phantom”, giving users the ability to discreetly take audio, video, or photos, and will then be stored in secure servers outside of the phone. It’s a clever idea, and he’s confident that this direction will give the app purpose beyond its visceral nature, in areas such as the medical and legal sectors.
Fresh spin on online dating
Jue Wang also pitched his concept, a startup called Joinable. Online dating, a growing $2 billion dollar industry is populated with apps such as Harmony, Tinder and Plenty of Fish.
However, Wang claims that each of these apps contains a common deficit: leaving the date planning up to each match. Joinable sets itself apart from these platforms by automatically giving its members a common interest, the idea being that it would result in a more concrete dating experience.
Wang hopes to include an element of the app to promote offers and discounts, encouraging members of the app to have their date at a local business. With the number of adult singles beginning to grow higher than married couples, many of these singles will be looking for a dating app that can provide a more reliable dating system than what is currently available.
