Tuesday evening Flashstarts hosted the Flashstarts Angel Soiree #4 at our StartMart home in downtown Cleveland in collaboration with the Ohio Venture Association and North Coast Angel Fund. Investors, community leaders, and startup entrepreneurs gathered to celebrate Cleveland’s economic acceleration and to find the next thought and venture leaders to continue this region’s growth.

Highlights of the Angel Soiree

Ann Zoller of LAND Studio, joined by her colleague Greg Peckham, dsc_0285kicked off the evening with a presentation on the revitalization of downtown Cleveland. Images of Cleveland’s downtown square before and after this summer’s transformation illuminated the importance of green space in urban development. Zoller and Peckham were followed by 12 pitches from local startup companies. From a guilt-free babysitting app to investor relations software, each startup offered solutions to real-world problems. Upon the conclusion of the company pitches, guests were encouraged to meet the Cleveland startups more personally.

Based on the overwhelming number of quality applicants for exhibition at the soiree, the demo area was more than doubled in size to better showcase more of Cleveland’s top talent. Exhibitor tables stretched down two quadrants of StartMart, and all were enthusiastically approached for more information on their nascent companies. Investors were offered an insider’s view to Cleveland’s next generation of developing startups while the muted sounds of the Indians game played in the background.
